This is the one that is used the most. Puente Poncebos is where the beautiful Ruta del Cares begins or ends, depending on the visitors. If you take this route, it is worth enjoying the Cares River Gorge. The road to the Naranjo starts out being quite flat. In this area you will climb waterfalls and small streams.

The route gets progressively more complicated. However, the truth is that a series of mountain ropes and cables have been placed to facilitate the work. When you have been walking for about two hours, you will find a climb of almost 500 meters in 2 or 3 kilometers.

Once you go up an important slope, you have to turn left to continue climbing, although in a lighter way for another 3 or 4 hours. The good thing is that you will be able to see the Naranjo de Bulnes in the distance, which gives strength for the remaining section. Courage now for all!

Climb from Sotres

The town of Sotres is about 400 meters higher than Puente Poncebos. This saves you a bit of climbing, even if you move away from the Naranjo.

In a couple of hours you reach the beautiful town of Bulnes. In case you want to save yourself more, there is a cable car that goes to the town. In any case, the climb is easy and the aforementioned cable car is not very cheap.

The path to the Naranjo becomes progressively more complicated and you are not going to get rid of important steep slopes. Of course, it is simpler than the Puente Poncebos route. Something important is that you can see the Naranjo, it is something that always encourages. But the bad part, which also exists, is that you have to get to Sotres by car and the road is not the best.
