History of the  castle of Almodóvar del Río

The castle was the possession of Al’delMalik Ben Qatan, although a short time later it became the possession of Abderraman I. Its Mudejar influence can still be seen in its architecture.

Pedro I El Cruel had it as his residence for years, alternating it with his hiding place in the face of the danger he had in the city of Carmona, in the province of Seville. How did Pedro I flee from one place to another to save his life? If you want to know, you will have to visit the castle. King Peter I’s butler is there waiting to tell you.

Restoration of the castle of Almodóvar del Río

Like many other castles, this one, over the centuries, also came to be in ruins. However, a madman of travel, cultures and, above all, medieval times decided to restore it. This man was the Count of Torralba.

Together with his friend, the famous architect D. Adolfo Fernández Casanova, he investigated the state of the castle, which was very deteriorated. A mixture of pity and ambition seized the count. Thus he immersed himself in one of the most ambitious projects known in Andalusian lands.

He dedicated all his time and invested all his money in making the castle what it is today : an incredibly preserved fortress that attracts thousands of curious people each year and that has been the scene of such famous series as Game of Thrones or Red Eagle .

This castle became more than a project for the count, it became his obsession. He was willing to keep alive the history and legends that his walls kept secret. Stories of battles, love stories, legends about ghosts and endless stories to discover is what these walls want to tell you.

Therefore, when you visit this majestic fortress, do not forget to make a theatrical visit.  These types of visits are not only entertaining, but they allow you to know all these and more stories.
