An excursion to the Cape of Good Hope

Our path to the Cape of Good Hope begins in beautiful Cape Town. The journey takes just an hour and a half. However, on the route there are magnificent stops that we cannot miss. We started!

Cape Town

It is the second most populous city in South Africa. Its mild climate makes Cape Town an ideal destination for any season. Stroll through the Bo-Kaap neighborhood, a multicultural and very picturesque place. Its brightly colored houses and cobbled streets are part of its appeal. It is quite a show.

Another stop is the historic Victoria & Alfred Harbor. In it you will find countless restaurants with terraces, perfect for eating and enjoying the sea views. In addition, you can see entertaining outdoor shows and attractions. Wouldn’t you like to go up on a Ferris wheel contemplating the sea?

Table Mountain

Table Mountain, or Table Mountain, has a plateau about two miles long at its top. It is represented on the city’s flag. It is one of the seven wonders of the natural world and, therefore, one of the places that you should not miss.

At its highest point is the Maclear lighthouse, a stone mound built in 1865 that guided ships to the mainland. Whether on a walking route or climbing to the top with the cable car, you will enjoy the breathtaking views of this plateau. Can you go through it all?

Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden

This botanical garden is one of the most beautiful on the planet. It is located next to Table Mountain and its extension is 500 hectares, making it one of the largest in the world.

It has an incredible flora typical of South Africa, where we can find 9000 different species. Do not hesitate to hire a hiking excursion and lose yourself in the essence of this exotic place.

Cape Point, an essential stop on the way to the Cape of Good Hope

This place has something very special, since here two large bodies of water meet : the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. It is, therefore, a corner where you have to stop yes or yes on the way to the Cape of Good Hope.

At its highest point we find a unique lighthouse. It is located more than 260 meters above sea level. However, it is not in operation, since fog and weather conditions frequently prevented the light from being seen from the sea.

From the promontory where the lighthouse is located, you will have a spectacular 360º panorama that shows the unmatched beauty of South Africa. But be careful with the monkeys. These curious animals are all over the area. Don’t lose sight of the camera! They love to get hold of things from clueless tourists.

Boulders beach

Another stop before reaching the Cape of Good Hope is at Boulders Beach. Famous for its pleasant surroundings, its granite rocks and, above all, because a colony of African penguins lives here.

This endangered species does not measure more than 70 cm and weigh about 6 kilos. Interestingly, they live in burrows made in the ground. Do not miss the opportunity to meet these friendly animals. They’re adorable!

Cape of Good Hope

And we reached our destination. A spectacular place no matter where you look at it. Today, the Cape of Good Hope Reserve is considered a Unesco World Heritage Site.

To get there, we can take a pleasant walk from Cape Point along a wooden walkway. Feeling the waves breaking hard on the rocks and the magic that floats in the environment is a unique experience.

Its historical importance is what makes this cape famous. When the explorer Vasco de Gama came across him, it was possible to think of a sea route to the Indies. Something that seemed impossible to find.

Once you are there, at the extreme end of a continent, you will have the feeling of being at the end of the world. It is something truly magical, an experience that you will hardly forget.
