The fjords of Norway shape one of the most exciting natural spaces on the European continent. And for this, the first thing to do is consider a good route through the Norwegian fjords.

Where are the fjords of Norway

Some of you will say that it is obvious. But Norway is a very long country from south to north, so we are going to specify a little more. They are found in the southwestern part of the country.  Or at least, there is the largest agglomeration and the most beautiful of these natural jewels carved by the seas and glaciers can be found.

It is an area that includes four counties: Rogaland, Hordaland, Songo g Fjordane, and More of Romsdal. It is not a very large territory, but it involves slow travel by road and ferries, and even incredible mountain trains. So it is worth calculating our route well.

A route through the fjords

We already started with our tour of the Norwegian fjords. A route that you can expand if you have time and the budget reaches you.

Bergen, start of the trip

The best place to start this unforgettable trip is the beautiful city of Bergen. The city is famous for its Hanseatic quay, which is a must for a walk. It is known as Bryggen and here numerous restaurants and shops are accumulated for tourists.

And there are really many tourists in this city of Viking origins. And all of them are eager to embark on cruises that will take them to the Norwegian fjords. However, we recommend that you take the road trip to the Hardanger Fjord.

This is a fantastic itinerary that will also show you beautiful waterfalls, such as the Steinsdalsfossen. And in addition, you will pass through towns such as Eidfjord or places as attractive for hiking as the Troll’s Tongue.

Aurlandsvegen Fjord

Our next destination is this fjord where the Aurlandsvegen tourist road will take us. We will enjoy places like the Stegastein viewpoint, or we can take the famous Flam train in Gudvangeny. Not forgetting the visit to the Borgund church, one of the most attractive among the classic stavkirke in the whole country.

Jostedalsbreen National Park

One of the most beautiful stops on the entire tour of the Norwegian fjords is this national park. There you can enjoy a glacier show like nowhere else in Europe.

To get there, you will go through places like the highest road on the continent, known as the “roof of Norway”, or you will have the option of discovering Geiranger.

Ascent to Preikestolen

One of the classics that any route through the fjords of Norway is to ascend to the Pulpit or Preikestolen. To do this, you have to go to the city of Stavanger. There you take first a ferry and then a bus to the base of the rock.

And at that point the ascent begins walking for about an hour. The reward is being able to take one of the most vertiginous photos you will take in your entire life. And it is that the platform rises more than 600 meters above the waters of the fjord.

From Alesund to Andalsnes

To complete this unique journey through the fjords of Norway, you can spend a few days going from the beautiful Art Nouveau of Alesund to Andalsnes. To do this, you have to make a section of the always amazing Atlantic Highway.

You will love the journey with views of the fjords. And if you have time, put on your boots and follow one of the hiking routes in this area, there are them as simple and attractive as the one in Rampestreken.

We could write so much more about the fjords of Norway, tell you more names and go crazy describing those landscapes. But we recommend that you open a map, have the Internet at hand and start designing your itinerary. It is part of this journey. An adventure that turns into a memorable event!
