Acapulco native and conquered

The name Acapulco derives from the native Nahuatl language and means “place where the reeds were razed. This great Mexican port belonging to the state of Guerrero has a lot of history to tell us at every step.

The vestiges indicate that the first settlers in the area date back to 3,000 years BC, although the first “formal” settlements (to call them somehow) date back to the 11th century between Playa Larga and Cerro de la Aguada.

In 1521 Hernán Cortés sent his troops to search for gold in the region and shortly after it was renamed “City of the Kings”. Already in 1697 the population of this incipient port tripled and with it the buildings.

After the independence of Mexico in 1821 it became part of the State of Mexico. Since 1885 the full name of the city is Acapulco de Juárez, in honor of former President Benito Juárez.

Acapulco Traditional, Gold and Diamond

The fame of this beach began in the 50s when many Hollywood celebrities chose it to spend periods of rest incognito. Although that trend continued, Cancun won the battle in terms of attracting tourists, from all over the world and any profession.

1. Traditional Acapulco

Also known as Nautical. It is the oldest part of the port and where the city center is. There are many hotels and restaurants with typical dishes. It is a perfect place if you like to be in the middle of the beach but without neglecting “civilization”.

It is 22 kilometers southeast of the international airport and stretches between the beaches of Caleta and Caletilla. You can visit many attractions in this area, such as the island of La Roqueta, the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, the Historical Museum, the Parque de la Reina and the Plaza de la Heroica Escuela Naval Militar.

Traditional Acapulco has 4 renowned beaches : Honda, Langosta, Manzanillo, Tlacopanocha and Hornos.
