Mazarrón is a wonderful Murcian town that has dozens of experiences prepared for all its visitors. It is the destination chosen by many tourists every summer, mainly for its guaranteed good weather and its beautiful beaches, but it has much more. Therefore, today we tell you the 5 things to do in Mazarrón to enjoy your visit 100%.

Throughout the area there are quite a few routes to do, of more or less difficulty and with different objectives. It is a great way to get to know the Bay of Mazarrón in a different way. You can also take cultural routes, which are a good way to discover the past and present of this town.

There are dozens of different tours. Especially relevant is the route through the town of Mazarrón.  You will visit the Town Hall, the church of San Antonio de Padua, the church of San Andrés, the castle of los Vélez, the church-convent of La Purísima and the Roman Miliary.

Another possibility of the Route of the watchtowers. You will start at the Torre del Molinete de Mazarrón, then move to the port and visit the Torre de Santa Isabel. Finish by visiting the tower of the Horses of Bolnuevo.

As we said before, one of the main attractions of the town is the quality of its beaches and its hours of sunshine. In the municipality of Mazarrón there are more than 30 sandy areas in more than 35 kilometers of coastline. There are beaches for all tastes, from the most urban ones to the most remote and less known coves.

They are all very special and you should choose the one that you consider best according to what you are looking for. We recommend Playa Amarilla (in Moreras) if you are looking for a secluded beach but with atmosphere.

Other options are the Leño cove (nudist) or Cueva de Lobos beach, perfect to enjoy the water and fantastic views. We must also mention the Bahia beach (urban) and Bolnuevo (semi-urban), both of which have been awarded the Q flag for Tourist Quality.

The Holy Week

The first processions recorded in Mazarrón date from the 16th century, making it one of the greatest traditions of the town. Every year the Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de las Penas walks through its streets, with more than 150 brothers.

The pilgrimage of the Miracle

The pilgrimage is celebrated every year on the Sunday following November 17, the day of the Miracle. For the people of Mazarron, this is a tradition that completely defines them.

They are absolutely proud of this festival, since it is one of the few that has remained unchanged since it began to be celebrated in the middle of the last century, although it has a much more ancient origin.

4. The active tourism of Mazarrón

The entire coastline of Mazarrón offers dozens of plans for all lovers of sports and outdoor activities. From activities and games on the beach for the whole family, to sports diving or water sports of all kinds, such as sailing, surfing or windsurfing .

But perhaps the most special and different thing is the possibility of watching cetaceans. Dolphins and whales that are very close to the area and that can be seen thanks to the different boat excursions that are offered, both for a few hours and a whole day or even a weekend.

5. The traditional tourism of Mazarrón

And for all those who wish to get to know the city in a more “traditional” way, Mazarrón also has different tourist enclaves. Especially relevant are its religious buildings, such as the Iglesia de la Purísima or the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, and the civil buildings, such as the Casino or the tower of Santa Isabel.

But without a doubt, practically obligatory, you have to visit one of the different archaeological sites that the municipality has.  Some are more than 95,000 years old and are real gems.
