The cinema has the ability to transport us to different places and times without moving from our sofa or armchair. Those landscapes are forever etched in our memory and, if we are lucky enough to travel to that place where our favorite movie was filmed, we will feel like its protagonists. Do you want to know which are the most famous movie sets? In this article we show you!

Places where famous movies were filmed

Fortunately, not everything is made with a computer and editing programs. Many world-renowned movie sets have been shot in “real” locations. Here we offer you some of the most important:

1. Gloucester Cathedral (UK)

If you are a fan of the Harry Potter saga, you will surely remember this wonderful architectural work where our wizard friend was in the movie The Chamber of Secrets .

It is located in the southwest of England and combines Romanesque, Gothic and Tudor-style elements. It was built between 1089 and 1499.

2. Ta Prohm (Cambodia)

The temple that has been “eaten” by trees was the setting for the film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,  starring Angelina Jolie.

It is part of the Angkor complex, a World Heritage Site, which was used as a residence for monks (it had a capacity for more than 12,000 people). It was built in 1186 and its main image represents the goddess of Wisdom.

3. Hotel Bellagio (United States)

In the city of Las Vegas you will find that 5-star resort with an impressive casino and a wonderful water fountain at the entrance. It appears in the film The Great Scam, which brings together several renowned actors such as Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Andy Garcia.

It opened its doors in 1988 and has almost 4,000 rooms. If that blew you away, it’s because you still don’t know how big their gaming space is: over 10,000 m²!

4. Matamata (New Zealand)

In the town of Hinuera (two hours from Auckland), and after several years of work and construction, it was possible to recreate the region of the hobbits from the Lord of the Rings saga.

Currently there are guided tours of Hobbitton and its 44 houses, including Bilbo’s. You can also visit the Festival Tree, the double arch bridge, the mill and the Green Dragon pub.

5. Ko Phi Phi Le (Thailand)

It was one of the places where the movie La playa,  by Leonardo Di Caprio, was filmed. After becoming famous on the big screen, she lost her characteristic tranquility. More and more tourists choose it to spend their vacations in Southeast Asia. It is located in the Phi Phi archipelago, in the Andaman Sea.

6. Marriott Marquis Atlanta (United States)

This hotel not only attracts attention for its modern architecture, but also because several scenes from The Hunger Games saga ,  starring Jennifer Lawrence, were filmed there. It was opened in 1985 and has no less than 1,663 rooms and 5 restaurants.

7. Varda Köprüsü (Turkey)

It is a bridge with really fascinating views, located in the city of Ardana. In this place the most famous secret agent, James Bond, developed his mission in the installment called Skyfall. It was built in stone during the reign of Emperor Justinian I, in the 6th century.

8. Park Hyatt Tokyo (Japan)

It is a luxurious hotel located in the city center. A really attractive love movie like Lost in Tokyo , written by Sofía Coppola and starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, was shot at its facilities.

9. Café des 2 Moulins (France)

In the Montmartre district, in Paris, the life of Amelie Poulain passes. The film that tells the story of a waitress who falls in love with a photo collector.

The cafeteria bears that name in reference to the Moulin Rouge, which just gives its name to another well-known movie.

10. The Travel Bookshop (England)

In this bookstore the protagonists of the film Notting Hill (Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant) meet. Near this store is the house where the young man lived.

The door was auctioned after the premiere of the film  and today there is a black one. Although a sign tells you that the story was filmed there!
