The citadel

The impressive enclosure of this citadel is an extensive fortress with walls more than three meters wide and five meters high, which form a closed enclosure on itself. The ravine of La Hoya and the Cerro de San Cristóbal maintain a direct connection with the citadel. It is the most extensive Arab construction in all of Spain.

Its construction began in the 11th century, although most of what is preserved today dates from the 14th century, this would be a large part of the walls and the two towers. The Monumental Site of Alcazaba was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985.

Malaga Cathedral

Malaga Cathedral is considered one of the most important and valuable Renaissance jewels of Andalusia. It was built between 1528 and 1782 and it is dominated by Renaissance and Baroque styles.

Inside the cathedral there are some important and significant works of art, among which the choir stands out, with 42 carvings made by Pedro de Mena, Ortiz de Vargas and Giuseppe Micael Alfaro. Likewise, a beautiful canvas of the Virgin of the Rosary is preserved.

The Central Market of Atarazanas

The Central Market of Atarazanas is one of the most important and emblematic buildings in Malaga, so getting to know it is almost a mandatory stop. The history of the enclosure dates back to the 14th century; However, it was not until 1870 that the architect Joaquín Rucoba’s project to build the new food market was approved.

The tour includes the hill of San Cristóbal, the fortress of the Moorish castle, the convent and church of San Francisco, the Casa Cervantes and the Convent of Nuestra Señora de Gracia, among other interesting places.
