The origin of Göteborg
The name of the city derives from the river that flows a few kilometers away: the Göta Alv. This territory on the Swedish coast has been inhabited for thousands of years and, despite the transformations it has undergone, it still retains its essence as an ancient maritime town.
Despite its antiquity, it was not until 1621 that King Gustav II Adolfo ordered the construction and formal founding of the city. In this way, Göteborg was endowed with fortified walls, which were fundamental in its development and prosperity.
