4 things you can do on your visit to Jávea

Jávea is a beautiful municipality in Alicante that offers numerous distractions : from knowing its heritage to tasting its gastronomy. Next, we will discover these and other plans that it offers and that will make you get the most out of your visit. Are you accompanying us on this tour?

1. Visit the most significant monuments of Jávea

The Alicante municipality has several places of interest. Perhaps the most important is the church of San Bartolomé, considered a National Artistic Monument. It is located in the heart of the city, dates from the 16th century and its bell tower stands out especially, which can be seen from all over the region.

We continue the monumental route through other religious constructions. We are now talking about  the parish of the Sea, which has the peculiarity that the roof resembles a ship’s keel and that its external columns could well be the tentacles of an octopus. It is, therefore, a much more modern building than the previous one.

Equally recommended is the monastery of the Virgen de los Ángeles, belonging to the Jerónimos order. Today it is run by a single monk, although in summer it receives colonies of foreign students who are attracted by the large number of charms that Jávea offers.

In addition to the religious buildings that we have just seen, you must visit the different mills that are distributed throughout the municipality, such as Safranera; and the two towers that formerly served as a lookout and are in perfect condition. One is located in the Portitxol, and the other, in the Ambolo.

2. Go to one of the beaches of Jávea

Jávea has several beaches where you can relax or practice sports. One of the most prominent is that of Arenal, the only one composed of sand in the entire municipality, which is why it is the most visited by tourists. Its extension does not exceed one kilometer of coastline.

Other beaches and the possibilities they offer are Granadella, perfect for scuba diving; that of Ambolo, frequented by nudists; that of Benisero, which has a delimited area where you can practice windsurfing ; or La Grava, located next to the port, so you can take advantage of it to visit it.

In Jávea there are also several coves, such as Portichol or La Sardinera. Access to the latter is not easy, but it is worth going down to it to enjoy its privileged surroundings. And it is that the nature that surrounds it remains practically intact.

In this section we should also talk about the Route of the Viewpoints of Jávea. It is about fifteen strategic and signposted points along the coast of the municipality. Each of them can be accessed by car. If you choose to go on foot, it takes an average of three hours to complete the entire itinerary.

3. Tour the Montgó Massif Natural Park

The Montgó Massif Natural Park is a place that has an area of more than two thousand hectares and that protects the massif that gives it its name, which reaches a maximum altitude of seven hundred and fifty-three meters. In this environment you can enjoy the landscape, but also the fauna that lives there, among which the Bonelli’s eagle stands out.

On the other hand, in the Macizo del Montgó Natural Park, various guided activities are organized to enjoy this wonderful environment while, for example, hiking, for which there are several itineraries. To do this, you must first go to the visitor center, located in the municipality of Dénia.

4. Taste the local gastronomy

Equally recommended is to taste the typical dishes of Jávea, such as esgarrat , a kind of salad with roasted red pepper and salted cod, among other ingredients; or the polp amb penca or octopus with thistles. The rice dishes (baked, paella with anchovies and spinach…) cannot be absent either.

Regarding desserts, those made with typical products of the area stand out, such as oranges, almonds, raisins or figs. Some examples are almond cake, coca María, pastissets , sopà , which is a kind of traditional custard; the casca, typical of the Three Kings Day; and the sweet ball.
