It is one of the most spectacular and dangerous roads in the world, hence its name. 80 kilometers of true vertigo between La Paz and Los Yungas. A road that runs on the edge of the precipice and for which two vehicles hardly fit in some sections. And to this is added the fog and rain. Of course, the views are wonderful.

You will see volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, and geysers. But don’t think this is a highway at all, it’s a two-lane highway only.

If you are a little fearful, the curves of this road may make you give up driving on it. A road with 11 hairpin bends and an average gradient of 9% that is one of Norway’s great attractions.

Also on the African continent there are spectacular roads. The Garden Route departs from Cape Town and crosses, along its 200 kilometers, landscapes of great beauty, beaches, lakes and natural parks. At some stops you can see animals such as penguins and even whales that look out from the ocean waters. A great experience in every way.

To get to one of China’s great attractions, the Gate to Heaven, you almost have to earn it. And it is that you have to travel an impressive road. Its 99 curves, from a bird’s eye view, make your hair stand on end. Eleven kilometers of true madness to ascend to 1,300 meters. Of course, the road is perfectly conditioned. And yes, there is an alternative: a funicular.

It is 205 kilometers long and, if for something it is one of the most spectacular roads on the planet, it is because a good part of its route runs on water. It links the Florida Keys and is one of the most relaxing scenic drives you can imagine. Its origin is in an old railway line destroyed in the 30s by a hurricane.

10. Sa Calobra, Spain

We finish our tour on spectacular roads on the island of Mallorca. The Sa Calobra road is only 13 kilometers long, but its curves are vertigo: 12 of 180º and one of 360º in which the road forms a loop. It does not matter if the reward is to be able to admire one of the most beautiful corners of the island.
